Well, I’m now the proud owner of an R1! I won’t pick it up for a little while yet, but I put a deposit down on one yesterday and sorted my insurance out.
When I went to the showroom I still couldn’t decide between the silver or blue colour, but when I saw them together it had to be silver. The ram-air intakes have been painted silver to match the upper fairing and the wheels are painted to match the mid-fairing (something which I hadn’t noticed in the pictures), on all the other colours these items are just plain black. I got a good deal from Rex Judd thanks to my friend Peter.
Last night it hadn’t really sunk in and I was feeling indifferent about it all, but today I’m very excited and just want the bike right now!

David’s a sensible lad, I’m sure he’ll be careful to scrub everything in appropriately. So David, have you got any mods planned? Smaller plate, louder exhaust, bigger underwear?
Ciao amico!

Nice one chap! Most be terrible having to wait… A mate of mine has the blue ’04 R1 and just put some new Blueflame cans on it… gotta say they sound great and pretty keen price too!

Thanks for the comments everyone!
Don’t know about upgrades yet – think I’ll ‘run it in’ first before making my mind up. Things on consideration at the moment are:
a full set of R&Gs
Yamaha seat cowl
double bubble dark tinted screen
R1 heel plates
race cans (Akrapovic?)
Anyone got an other ideas?

I have to say, I think the double Yoshimura exhaust system is nicer. It looks so, so nice, and sounds much deeper and livlier than the Akrapovics I’ve seen and heard on ’04 R1′s. I’m normally an Akrapovic fan, but this time Yoshimura got it spot-on.
So you going to do a trackday with us when you get her David???

Well, I’m not decided on which cans to get yet. I do like the triangular look of the Yoshi’s. I’ll be keeping my eye (and ear) out for all the possibilities!
Track days – not decided yet… If I didn’t have to rely on the bike for transport to/from work etc. then maybe I wouldn’t be so worried but as it’s the only transportation I have there’s more of a risk associated with going overboard on the track.

You won’t go overboard, you’re sensible enough, it’s just like road riding except there’s ten times more grip, there’s nothing coming the other way and you know what’s around the next corner. And there’s no speed cameras, just digital cameras.
Not that it will happen, but if you were to overcook it, you can borrow my DRZ, come on
Donnington GP at the end of the month!
