They aren&#039;t cost effective (they don&#039;t lower your insurance premium more than their cost), they piss you off to high-heaven with annoying beeping noises, and can fail, leaving you stranded, or embarrassed!&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;Neither of the two common species of bike-thieves (pikus-maximus, and scum-professionalous) are troubled by alarms when wanting to relieve you of your considerable investment, and PAJ.&lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;They do however, serve to warn you when you some twat is touching your bike and common manners dictates they shouldn&#039;t be. Assuming you&#039;re within ear-shot.</description>
