I got a new Sony Ericsson W880i this weekend and, although it’s not officially support by Apple’s iSync, I had gambled that, like other SE models, I would be able to hack the plugin files to get it working.
However, A few hours spent in front of the Mac on Sunday morning and I’ve managed to duplicate Apple’s W810 plugin and modify it so that the W880 works (over USB and Bluetooth)!
Once I’ve sorted out the minor bugs I hope to release this plugin as an installable PKG file and then expand the series to support other models that iSync doesn’t support out of the box.
For now though, I need a few Beta testers to use my plugin and report any results.
Install Instructions:
Download the tar.gz file below and double click to uncompress it. Place the uncompressed “SonyEricsson-W880.phoneplugin” folder into your:
“Macintosh HD::Users::yourusername::Library::PhonePlugins”
directory (create this if it does not exist) and restart iSync. Then just search for your phone and away you go!
You can also place the folder into the system Library folder but until I’ve ironed out any bugs I suggest that you stick to your personal folder to begin with.
Troubleshooting:
Some users have reported sync failures when pairing was initiated from the Mac. I’m not sure why this would be but I think it’s more a bluetooth problem than specifically to do with iSync as it seems to affect file transfers too. The solution seems to be re-pairing from the phone itself.
If you find this plugin useful, please consider making a small donation to help me make more!
Download the plugin for iSync 2.3 (Tiger 10.4.8) here.
Plugin for iSync 2.4 (Tiger 10.4.9) ALPHA here.
EXPERIMENTAL: Installable package for 10.4.9 and later here. Download, unzip, double-click. If this works for you, please let me know!
I also have instructions to get the Address Book app working with SMS and Call notification.
Update: 21/03/2007
Version 0.2 coming soon – Fixed 10.4.9 compatibility, modified support information.

March 7th, 2007 at 9:41 am
Hi David..
I downloaded the phone plug in and installed as instructed. I did make the mistake of putting the folder in Mac..HD/Library, however I realised the error and then put it in the user directory. Once I corrected my error isync recognised the phone and i successfully carried out an ical sync.
I really am interested in your address book plug in as I’m fed up with the little buttons on the W880i and want to use the SMS feature in ‘address book’ with the keyboard on my powerbook.
Please contact me if you can get this to work..
Many thanks
Steve

I just downloaded your plugin and it works like a charm!
What do you mean by — “a little buggy” when describing the iCal-sync?
I’d love to beta test, send me a mail.

thanks for this.
is it possible to request for a silver/metal tiff icon since i dont have photoshop.
dive6610(at)yahoo.com if you dont mind, i will be waiting, thanks again.
March 16th, 2007 at 11:22 am
Hi Louie,
I shall be packaging the plugin as a proper installable pkg file soon (hopefully this weekend) and I will be providing black/orange and silver/metal options then. Watch this space (I’ll also drop you an email too)
March 18th, 2007 at 4:16 am
thanks again David.
i tried modifying using the w810 phoneplugins from iSync 2.4 and everything worked. the only thing that didnt work were the contact pictures and USB.
will wait for the pkg.
March 18th, 2007 at 10:43 am
Hi again Louie,
I don’t think contact pictures will be supported by this phone as the other phones that use this Operating System don’t either. Also, To use USB you will need to update the USB Device ID in the 810 plugin. Try plugging your phone in and using system profiler to find it (That’s what I did!)
David.
March 18th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
Works for me. But what a horrible phone – terrible buttons you can’t actually push.
And how is one meant to sync music to it? It does play AAC but how do you find the files to send over? Bit pointless on Sony’s part.
Nice bit of work on the software though.
March 19th, 2007 at 9:25 am
Actually Charles, I’ve found that I’ve got used to the buttons and now don’t find them a problem at all. I don’t really use the walkman feature as I have my trusty iPod nano, but I understand what you mean – The sync software that comes with the phone is just for Windows – I’m sure you are able to sync music on that platform – but as for Mac – well, maybe someone needs to write something to sync playlists in iTunes or something.
March 20th, 2007 at 12:00 am
same here, i have no problems with the keys. as for transferring music, i just plugin my w880 on my mac and as Storage, i just drag from my music library to w880.
or under parallels desktop build 3188 i tried to use disk2phone.
and btw david, thanks again for the usb ‘system profiler’ tip, the thing is, i need to remove w880 from devices inorder for me to sync thru USB
now i am a happy w880 user.
March 20th, 2007 at 5:39 am
Hi David
I’ve put the folder into as many Library locations as I can find and I still havn’t been able to get isync to detect the W880i. It keeps saying the device is unsupported.
Any tips on how I would go about trying to debug what the error is?
March 20th, 2007 at 9:06 am
Terry,
I’m sorry, I am unsure as to why it’s not working for you. I haven’t had this issue reported before. Please double check that you are placing it into a directory called “PhonePlugins” (case sensitive, this is a UNIX based system) in your user library and that you are quitting and restarting iSync.
Thanks,
David.
March 20th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
Terry,
I don’t think the identification would be the issue as everyone else would be experiencing the same problem. I think something is causing the plugin to fail when loading.
Please verify that you are running iSync v2.3 and also have a look at your console log files inside of in “/Library/Logs/Console/” for iSync error messages.
Another possibility is that you have another plugin with a matching GUID in it – Do you have any other iSync plugins installed?
David.
March 20th, 2007 at 10:35 pm
Your iSync plugin seems to work fine, thank you. Except for one flaw: first and last name are swapped on the phone. Is that a problem no one else is having? Do you know help?
Thanks, Raphael
March 20th, 2007 at 10:36 pm
David
I think I’ve found the problem. I am on version 2.4 of isync, i’m guessing that’s not good for getting this to work? Do I need to go back a version? ( if that is possible)
This is the error I got on the console log:
09:15:59.599 [iSync:728] ERROR (.plugin): Plugin at /Users/*******/Library/PhonePlugins/SonyEricsson-W880.phoneplugin is not supported by this version of the Phone Conduit (Compatibility version is missing)
Thanks for your replies so far, it’s good to see some sort of error message

I think we’re on to something here. Terry, have you updated to 10.4.9? Jack, what version of Tiger are you running?
David.
March 21st, 2007 at 10:37 am
Hi David
I am on 10.4.9. A slightly different/additional error message this time after the new download. I have not installed any other plugins knowingly. It’s a little starnge on add device though, Two phones that are not there seem to come up and say “isync can not connect to this device” Dont know if this problem is related. it’s almost as if isync hasnt flushed it’s buffer or something. . .

Hi,
Great work. Mine works just well and great.
Any experience syncing two macs with one phone? Does it work? I am mostly working with G5 desktop Mac, iSyncing my iCal and Addressbook with W880i. When I’m on the road I’ll work with my PowerBook. Is it possible to sync iCal and address with all these three?
March 25th, 2007 at 11:43 am
Works like a charm. No problems what so ever.
Nice work!

After I use your plug in…I feel very sorry that i am not able to give you the money that i am very willing to give as i don’t own any means to pay electronic money
It just work too fine as if its from apple, and I am sooooo happy as i am just randomly search any thing for my new 880i…
i never thought of sync my ical with my phone..
anyway, I just want to let you know that you SAVE me lot of time and really really a great help!
Thanks!
March 25th, 2007 at 8:37 pm
Hi again.
Now I’m having difficulties with syncing iCal with W880i.
The problem is that all the appointment times differs beetween W880i and iCal. The appointment that I have marked to start at 10am on iCal, W880i shows that it would start at 8am. Every appointment is two hours ahead on W880i. What could be wrong?
March 25th, 2007 at 8:42 pm
Okey, sorry, I was a fool… I had wrong timezone selected on W880i. So, syncing was not the problem. It was me…
March 27th, 2007 at 7:02 am
Hi again.
When I make a task on the phone with the alarm and sync, the alarm doesn’t go together with the task to iCal. iCal does alarm me, but with a blanc notification ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú no ling to the task.
March 27th, 2007 at 2:51 pm
Hi Tero,
Many thanks for all the feedback! I will see if I can look into this alarm thing, but it might be that the phone communicates events and alarms separately and so they cannot be sync’d. I’ll do some testing to verify this though.
David.

Hi David,
I have iSync2.4 and running on MacOS X 10.4.9. I did exactly your instructions but when I restarted iSync I couldn’t see the icon for W880. Am I missing something here? I should install your plugin for 2.4 version only right since you supplied for both iSync 2.3 and 2.3? Sorry. I am a Mac dummy. Any help will be much appreciated!
Many thanks

April 10th, 2007 at 9:00 am
Hi Chang,
After installing the plugin, you still need to add your W880 as a device. Use the menu Devices -> Add Device and pair up with your phone.

Hi David,
I have iSync2.4 and running on MacOS X 10.4.9. I did exactly your instructions but when I restarted iSync and tried to add the W880 (which I have renamed as Jon – hopefully this wouldn’t cause a problem) as a device it says that iSync can not connect to this device. Any ideas why this might be? Cheers Jon

Hi Al,
Not sure if you’ve read my post at http://www.davidforster.com/2007/03/22/w880_os_x_address_book/ regarding Address book support for the W880i?
Does that help?
David.
April 23rd, 2007 at 4:18 am
Thanks for your excellent work in publishing the plug-in. I have one problem with it though: each time I sync, the phone seems to have to update all of the ical entries, not just the recently entered ones. So syncing takes a long time. I can’t seem to find anything I might be doing to cause this. Any suggestions?

Hi, I’m trying to sync my address book from my computer to my new w880i (to all you button haters – you’ll get used to it, i found it hard at first.) When I initially paired the two devises via bluetooth it asked me if I wanted to sync Address Books, I clicked yes but its not working.
I cant use your extension thing because I don’t have tiger, im on 10.2.8. Is there any way i can do it?
April 25th, 2007 at 11:14 am
Hi Dave,
I’m afraid that I don’t know of any plugins for the w880i compatible with iSync for 10.2.8.
As I recall, the underlying architecture of iSync changed quite a bit when 10.4 was released so I’m not even sure if it’ll be possible to get it working.
Sorry I couldn’t help more
David.
April 25th, 2007 at 11:19 am
Hi Jonathan,
I can’t see why your w880 isn’t being recognised if you’ve followed the instructions properly. Renaming the device shouldn’t cause a problem at all.
I would suggest having a look at your console log files in ?¢‚Ǩ?ì/Library/Logs/Console/?¢‚Ǩ¬ù for any iSync error messages that might help diagnose the problem.
April 25th, 2007 at 6:22 pm
Hi David,
Your plugin was working perfectly fine until i reformatted my macbook. Towards the end of the syncing process, i got this error:
Thursday, 26 April 2007 2:15 AM
[KelvinW880i] There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone.
Device “KelvinW880i” synchronization failed
However, my W810i is working fine. i manage to sync it without any problem. I have ensured that the timezone on my macbook and phone are matched.
Could it be some Apple updates might have caused this problem? Please advise what should i do now… Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Kelvin C
April 26th, 2007 at 7:17 am
Hi Kelvin,
I’m not sure why you’re having problems after a format. The log message seems to suggest that there was an issue on the phone side of things. I would double check that you are running the correct version of the plugin for the version of iSync that you have and try syncing again. If that fails, try deleting the phone from bluetooth/iSync and re-pairing.
David.
April 26th, 2007 at 2:01 pm
Hi David,
Thank you very much for the reply. yes i’m using the correct version and the same plugin that i downloaded before i format my macbook.
I tried re-pairing too but it didnt help. HOWEVER, today i change my method of pairing. I initiated the pairing from W880i instead of the other way round and it does the trick.
Weird but its working now… lol
Thanks for this great plugin! of course i wont forget the contribution once i have some paypal funds

I noticed my adresbook is empty without reason. Syncing deleted all my contacts on the phone as well. Any ideas how to solve this?
May 11th, 2007 at 12:50 pm
Al,
If your address book was emptied somehow and then you sync’d, your phone contacts would indeed have been wiped. This is normal iSync behaviour, because it is just reflecting the latest changes that were made. Unfortunately I don’t think Address Book keeps backups, but it may be worth Googling.
Always back up your data regularly (I am guilty of not doing this!). I would recommend BackityMac as a simple, easy to use, backup tool.
David.

Hi,
I have an issue with the plug-in on my Mac Pro. It appears to work fine on my iBook G4, but if I try and sync with iCal on the Mac Pro I get the following error in a dialog:
Wednesday, 16 May 2007 17:02
[W880i] An unexpected error occured.
Device “W880i” synchronization failed
Address book sync works fine. Any ideas?
Thanks,

May 17th, 2007 at 10:00 am
Hi Dan,
This might be an issue with the way your phone is paired. Take a look at comment numbers 42 and 44 above. Kelvin seemed to have the same problem and fixed it by re-pairing from the phone.
Hope this helps!
David.

I have just tried the Alpha version (for OS X 2.4.9) and it worked first time. A job well done. It allowed my 880i to connect as a phone and as data storage with no issues at all.
Ps. I used USB rather than Bluetooth for my connectivity to my iMac.
May 20th, 2007 at 3:38 am
Hi,
Thanks SO much for this! Sorry I cannot donate as i have no electronic means of doing so….Works perfectly
May 28th, 2007 at 3:36 pm
Followed all your instructions, W880i is paired up OK with my macbook and starts syncing in isync and starts sending items then stops and says “session failed” on the phone screen. On the computer screen it says “There was an error getting data from the phone. The synchronization may have been cancelled on the phone”
I can send files from the macbook to the phone but when I try and connect to the macbook from the phone it says “connecting” then after a couple of seconds “bluetooth connection failed”.
Any help much appreciated!!
May 28th, 2007 at 9:01 pm
Further to the above it’s not just during bluetooth transfer – the syncing also failed at the same point using the sony ericsson pc suite and a PC. Confusing!
May 28th, 2007 at 11:53 pm
Please disregard above 2 posts, solution found in post 44 by Kelvin C – had to initiate pairing from the phone rather than the computer!
May 29th, 2007 at 8:08 am

Is the 0.2 version going to come out of alpha “soon”? Seems it hasn’t been updated since march.
I’m downloading the alpha and will try it now, though. Hopefully it will work with my address book and calendar. I’m really crippled without it.
Pray that the iPhone will come to Europe soon…

June 5th, 2007 at 8:17 am
Hi Eobet,
The Alpha version seems pretty stable at the moment. I want to package a proper release but the bluetooth pairing issue seems to crop up quite a bit and while I’m sure that it’s an issue between Tiger and the Sony Ericsson OS I want to nail it down first.
Otherwise, there should be no differences between the Alpha and this, and the release version will be able to replace an installed Alpha version without any problems.
Hope it works for you!
David.
June 5th, 2007 at 8:25 am
Chad,
Are you choosing Phone mode, not File Transfer mode when connecting over USB? When you put the w880 into File Transfer mode all phone functions are disabled (Stupid, stupid SE!) and it basically behaves like an expensive memory stick and won’t talk with iSync.
David.
June 5th, 2007 at 8:37 am
Dear All,
iSyncing seems to work fine, and the phone is recognised on the system profiler, but I can’t for the life of me figure out why I cannot see it on the desktop and as a result have been unable to connect via USB and transfer anything sensible across.
Probably a simple problem but any help MUCH appreciated.
Thanks
Sam
June 5th, 2007 at 9:00 am
Sam,
When you plug your phone into the USB port, The screen should ask you whether to go into Phone or File Transfer mode. If you want to iSync with your phone, or use your phone as a GPRS/3G modem choose phone, but if you want to transfer files (music?) to the phone you need to be in File Transfer mode. This will essentially turn the phone into a removable drive and you will be able to access it from your desktop.
Hope this helps!
David.
June 5th, 2007 at 10:00 am
Dear David,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I have tried to boot the phone in file transfer mode but still to no avail. Again, I can see it in the system profiler, but this seems to be the only way it is recognised, certainly not on the desktop.
I also seem to have the dreaded ‘black-curtain restart screen’ issue when disconnecting the two when the phone has been plugged in, in phone mode charging. There does not seem to be anyway of disconnecting it on the system without being able to see it.
Once again, thanks for your help.
Sam

Hi David
I, like Stuart, have gone through the steps of re-pairing the phone from the phone end, but with no luck. All was working fine prior to …. what was it.. l think I set up to send SMS from Address Book and since then, no sync! I’m not sure of the purpose of your plug in as I had the W810 on my radar automatically with iSync.
I will keep googling and come back with any info.

Hi David,
As everyone, i was very pleased with my W880i. Until I tried to connect it with iSync…:(
I immediately checked Apple’s website to see if there was some known problem. Nope. No problem, just no iSync support for the w880!! Somethin you just don’t expect if youre last phone was a S700…
So, from Holland, thanx for solving my problem and making it possible to enjoy full interaction between my phone and my eMac!

Hello there… it’s me again!
It all works very nice, but it would be cool if we had contact pictures working as well with iSync! Any toughts of how that could be possible?
Example – You’ve got a contact with a contact picture on you AdressBook and after using iSync, the contact would appear on w880 with the same picture…

August 25th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
Hey, you just made my day by providing this plugin! Thanks for the effort!
August 27th, 2007 at 10:17 pm
To mcuh dismay I couldn’t get this to work until I got (OS X 10.4.10) the idea to copy the plugin folder into the iSYNC’s folder for plugins and then it had no problems finding the phone.
September 6th, 2007 at 10:18 am
Hi. I tried to install the iSync 2.4 version on my new MacBook running Tiger 10.4.10 but the folder heirarchy appears different. The “Macintosh HD::Users::yourusername::Library::PhonePlugins” path was not there as the final folder was only “phone”, not “PhonePlugins”. Installing it here did not work. I then tried to follow the advice in response 89, but couldn’t find the iSyncs floder for plugins. Thanks for the help.
September 6th, 2007 at 11:07 am
Hi Andrew,
Thank you for the info. I am running 10.4.10 fine. Could you try creating the PhonePlugins (case sensitive) folder for me as a test? If that works then I will finally be able to release a production version with a proper installer!
David.

Hi. I?Ǭ¥m so happy. Got the w880i yesterday and was very diappointed when it wasn?Ǭ¥t on the iSync-list. Lucky to find this page, and it works. Get you the cash later. You deserve it.
September 18th, 2007 at 3:29 pm
Hi David !
Thanks for your plugin that almost works like a charm. “Almost” means that the w880i synchronization is ommited if initiated via the iSync menu bar icon without iSync.app already running. If iSync.app is running, no problem with the synchronization whether it is done via the app or the menu bar button . Do you have an idea ?
In addition, why synchronizing contact pictures is not supported by the w880i ? How do you know that ?
Best regards and congratulations
September 19th, 2007 at 4:39 am
Thank you for your efforts – a small amout of feedback for you. I appreciate that your PlugIN was written for 10.4.9 – I am running 10.4.10 and the Address Book seems to have worked fine, but the Calendar Sync did not work. Bummer. I am experiencing exactly the same problem with a Nokia 6230 phone.
Keep up or efforts. If I can get it to work I will be happy to contribute.
Cheers – Michael

September 20th, 2007 at 10:21 am
Hi!
Im a fiddler from Sweden whith an 880i. Does your plugin work whith 10.4.10?
I actually did get your address from Applesupport!

September 20th, 2007 at 10:53 am
Hi Pelle,
I think it does work with 10.4.10. Please let me know how you get on.
Many thanks,
David.
September 20th, 2007 at 2:08 pm
Hi Olivier,
Thanks for your comment. I think that the sync from the menu bar icon issue is to do with iSync itself as I had this issue before with another, supported phone. The plugin just tells iSync how to talk to your phone, not modify the app’s behaviour.
I know that sync’ing contact pictures is unsupported because the 880 uses the same core OS as other w series phones which are supported by iSync but do not sync contact pictures. It’s a limitation of the 880, not iSync.
Hope this helps,
David.
September 21st, 2007 at 7:01 am
Hi David and good job!
It works whith 10.4.10
September 22nd, 2007 at 5:03 am
Hey David,
Thanks so much for creating this, I love my new phone and was more than a little desperate when I found it wasn’t “officially” supported. I don’t have paypal and I’d like to send you a donation – if you’re not comfortable with letting me know where you’re located, I suppose I could always make the effort and sign up for paypal! I’m based in Australia.
September 22nd, 2007 at 10:50 am
Hey Bradford,
Thanks for the comment. You should be able send money through PayPal without needing to sign up by using a credit card on their site instead.
Glad that you are able to use your 880!
David.
September 25th, 2007 at 8:59 pm
Hi David! Awesome plugin! It works great for me in syncing the calendar but the contacts never gets synced… I have a group called “mobile” in Addressbook and selected that only this should be synced, but my contacts on my mobile never makes it to “mobile” in Addressbook… Am I missing something?… Thanks again
September 25th, 2007 at 11:02 pm
you are a legend for ages i have been sending by bluetooth slowly but now i can just use your magic touch!!! thank you!
September 26th, 2007 at 10:51 am
Eric,
iSync will not import your contacts from your phone into a specific group. I’ve never done it, but I think you need to first sync all contacts normally, then move those you want into the mobile group, then finally choose only to sync that group.
David.
September 30th, 2007 at 5:04 pm
Excellent plugin. Life saver! Thanks.
October 1st, 2007 at 9:08 am
Hi David!

Hi.
My w880i and Intel based mac with 10.4.10 works well with iSync, but I can’t get address book calling and SMS to work.
October 4th, 2007 at 12:31 pm
Hi there!
I learned here that contact pictures does not sync with any SE phone.
But I want to ask for you all who whants that feature to go do te SE website and send them an email requesting the feature. With luck and much requests, may be they deliver that in the next firmware update to us all? Let’s cross fingers.
best regards and thanks for anyone who participates!
October 4th, 2007 at 12:54 pm
Tero,
Please see here to get your address book working with your W880i. You’ll need to do a bit of hacking though – it’s not as simple as installing this plugin I’m afraid.
Thanks,
David.

October 10th, 2007 at 12:42 pm
Hi David,
I wanted to thank you a lot for this plug-in that ease the calendar and contacts syncing with w880i.
But (there’s always a ‘but’) I’m experiencing a problem with scheduled events which are 1 hour sooner on the phone than on iCal. I tried to switch on/off DST on both w880i and the Mac, nothing makes the hours syncing correctly.
Does anyone have an idea about this issue ? Am I forgeting a trival detail ?
Well thank you for your soft and your help!
October 10th, 2007 at 1:06 pm
Hi Boris,
I don’t experience this problem myself, but it has been mentioned before. There’s no setting for iSync with regard to time zones and I can’t find anything in iCal either so I suspect that it’s something to do with daylight saving time on the 880.
David.
October 10th, 2007 at 3:41 pm
Well, in fact the solution to the 1 hour shifting problem between iCal and the W880i is pretty easy :
You have to:
1) Turn ON Daytime Saving on the phone
2) Delete all events on the Phone
3) reSync your phone to import the events from iCal according the phone’s new DST setting .
My mistake was to think that changing DST on the phone would make a new sync to update all events. But even if you change an event detail on the Mac, a sync do not apply the change on the phone and so on in the other way.
Sync seems to be sensible only about event creation or deletion both sides.
October 10th, 2007 at 7:17 pm
Hello David! I got recomendation from an Apple store in Sweden…:) I got version 10.4.10 and I have done exactly as the instructions told me. I had to create a new folder called phoneplugins (tried in other folders first). But it is still not working (“Isync can not…this device…”). I read that if I had downloaded some otfer updates from isync, that could be the problem. How do I do to see this and unstall? Newbeginner…

October 10th, 2007 at 9:36 pm
Great work – thanks. worked fine for me first time (thank you donation arriving via paypal – keep up the good work).
October 18th, 2007 at 10:20 am
I have OS 10.4.9 and iSync 2.4 with a w880i phone. Have done everything you say but with isync my phone never appears (plugged in as USB). If I try-add devices-nothing is found. I do notice that in the uncompressed plug-in file that there is noever actually a file called ‘plugin’. within.
HELP-I really want to sync my phone!!
October 19th, 2007 at 10:52 pm
Genius. The “installable package” version worked a dream on 10.4.10. Paypal donation coming right up. Thank you!
October 22nd, 2007 at 2:55 pm
to all who have troubles adding the phone to iSync using an USB bluetooth adapter:
try to use a DLINK 120 bluetooth adapter to add the phone as a new bluetooth device in bluetooth control panel. other adapters might not report all protocols known by the phone to the Mac ….. this can be the source of hassels.
October 27th, 2007 at 4:16 pm
The installable package work just great with my w880i and my brand new MACOSX 10.5
October 29th, 2007 at 9:07 am
Hi Jeppo,
Please ensure that you are connecting the phone to your USB port in “Phone Mode” and not “Mass Storage Mode”. If you are still having trouble, there is now an installable version of the w880 plugin on my site.
David.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:08 am
Hi Bjorn,
I have released my w880 plugin as an installable pkg now. If you are still experiencing problems, maybe you can try that?
David.
November 1st, 2007 at 10:25 am
Hi David,
Your plugin works great but i’ve just noticed that all my ical entries appear one hour later on my phone. Any tips?
Nick.

Hi Nick,
Please see comment #116. I believe that should sort your 1Hr issue.
David.
November 4th, 2007 at 2:58 am
Hey D, how are you? Great to find this plugin online as I was sold my W880i by the store promising it was supported by Mac…only to find that…well you know the rest
I have just downloaded your plugin for OX10 and will let you know how it works. If it’s effective I’ll be back to make a PayPal donation!
Good on you, have a great day.

Hello David,
Is it possible to get the Silver w880i icon in my iSync?!
thanks,

Take this image:
http://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4870/comsonyericssonw880so1.png
Then rename it to:
com.sony-ericsson.W880.tiff
and replace the file in (you can make a backup of the old file if you wish you switch back):
Disk\library\PhonePlugins\Sonyericss..\Contents\Resources\
Now your iSync looks like this:

Hi – thank you, thank you, thank you.
Have been using MobileSync for years, but it’s no longer supporting OSX 5.x, Office 2008, etc.
Used your ‘experimental’ version, installed it, ran iSync 3.02 and it found my phone first time and synced perfectly.
Thank you.

Thanks.

It works like a breeze. Thanks a million!
August 19th, 2008 at 9:07 am
I hate to be the one in 170 having trouble, but my library doesn’t seem to have a Phone Plug-Ins file and I’m ignorant enough not to know what to put where. There is a “Phone” file, but no “directory” inside. Is that it? Should I just name a file “Phone Plug-Ins” then one called “Directory” inside and put the plug in there? Thanks for your help.
August 19th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
Works like a charm. Thank you very much!
August 22nd, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Installed the file with the EXPERIMENTAL file. It asked my password and it installed quickly and without problems. I found it back though in the MAIN LIBRARY of my Mac Mini, not in username/Library. Since I don’t have my (2nd hand) W880i yet, I can’t test if it works. I opened the Folders and found the little tiff, only in BLACK. Would be nice if I could download a silver model too, as that’s the one I’m going to buy.
August 23rd, 2008 at 1:15 am
Thanks for the great plugin, I sync’d my W880i with isync 3.02 all good.
August 25th, 2008 at 8:30 pm
Installation and synchronization worked flawlessly between my w880i and macbook pro running Leopard 10.5.4. I used the ‘experimental’ installer and synced via bluetooth!
Thanx a lot!
August 25th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
If you have a little spare time left and like it to tweak around with applescript you definitely have to check out this blog:
http://web.mac.com/jhollington/technocrat/The_Technocrat/Entries/2007/3/18_Bluetooth_Proximity_Detection_on_OS_X.html
It allows you to monitor bluetooth Proximity so you can add actions when you w880i enters or leaves the bluetooth range. This way you can sync your phones calendar automatically when you come near your macbook.
It also allows you to lock your mac when you leave the room and unlock it when you come back. (That is: If you don’t forget your phone..
Have fun!
August 27th, 2008 at 8:43 am
Jim ;o)
That’s correct – the installer places the plugin into the main library. As it’s an installer rather than a self installed module I chose to place it there. This also means that anyone using the computer can sync with an 880, not just the person who installed the plugin.
Thanks,
David.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:45 am
Travis,
I suggest you download the experimental installer instead of trying to install by yourself if you are having problems. It seems to work like a charm!
Thanks,
David.
